A tour of a new state-of-the-art medium secure deaf service: William Wake House, St Andrew’s Healthcare – Northampton

Tuesday 2 November: 10.30am – 3.00pm

St Andrew’s Healthcare is the UK’s leading charitable provider of specialist mental healthcare, supporting service users with mental illness, developmental disabilities, brain injury and progressive and neurodegenerative conditions. Working in partnership with SignHealth, the UK’s largest Deaf mental health charity, we have developed a new medium secure service for Deaf men with mental health problems. British Sign Language (BSL) is the first language of the service and the care philosophy stresses the importance of appropriate communication together with respect for and understanding of deaf culture.

We recognise that having easy access to quality mental healthcare closer to home plays a vital role in recovery. The Deaf service is ideally situated to meet the needs of service users from the Midlands and the South. Located in Northampton, the service will be delivered in a new purpose-built, state-of-the-art medium secure facility, William Wake House.
