Call for Papers The Call for Papers has now closed, however we may be able to include extra presentations in the programme if they are of particular relevance. Please contact us if you would like to submit an abstract for consideration. Abstracts of Films and Posters are still being accepted. All abstracts must be submitted using the format detailed below. If you are unsure about how to prepare an abstract please contact us and you will be allocated a Mentor who will be able to guide you through the process.Some abstracts will be accepted conditionally, in which case you will be allocated a Mentor to help you to develop your paper. If your abstract is accepted a full Paper will be required by 17th September 2010 and will be included in the Congress Proceedings Guidance Notes The 8th European Congress on Mental Health and Deafness will be held in Cambridge, United Kingdom on 2nd - 5th November 2010. The theme of the Congress, 'Healthy Deaf Minds in Europe', will serve as the agenda for an exciting programme. Providing a forum for addressing mental health issues and developing links between all of the various professionals working in the field of deafness, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, therapists, nurses, social workers, interpreters, educationists, deaf people, carers and the community. The Congress will take the form of a collection of Symposia each focusing on a specific area of expertise within mental health and deafness including: Deaf Children, Young People and Families; Deaf Adults; Deaf Elders; Forensic Services; Multiple Disabilities; Service Development; Language Deprivation and Communication; Primary Care and Community Services; Mental Health Promotion and Education. Within these Symposia and the Congress programme there will be an opportunity to include papers on a wide range of topics including Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, Addiction, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Suicide, Asylum Seekers, Education policy, Audiology, Genetics etc.. Preference will be given to papers that reflect the underlying theme of the Congress of preventing mental ill health in the deaf community and promoting deaf mental wellbeing. Successful papers will be allocated either keynote presentation (1 hour including questions) or parallel presentation or workshop (30 minutes including questions). All presenters must pay the full Delegate Registration Fee less a £50 discount for the day that they are presenting. Papers can only be submitted by a maximum of two presenters per Paper. You may submit as many papers as you wish but each one must be submitted separately. All abstracts must be submitted in English as a Word Document (.doc) using the Call for Papers Form and sent as an attachment to an email to the Congress email address. Maximum length is 2,000 words in total including References. No pictures or diagrams to be included in the abstract but if you wish to submit pictures or diagrams please indicate this on the Form and you will be given details of how to do this. The official joint Congress languages are English and British Sign Language. All presentations and workshops will be interpreted between English and British Sign Language. If you are not confident about presenting in either of these languages please contact us to discuss options that may be available.
Films and Posters There will be an opportunity for Films to be shown during the Congress and for Posters to be displayed in the Exhibition area. Please use the forms below if you are inerested in submitting a Film or Poster for consideration. Posters must be A0 size (841mm x 1189mm). Please note that presenters of Posters and Films must pay the Full Delegate Registration Fee.
