Healthy Deaf Minds Healthy Deaf Minds meetings have been running in London for the last seven years. They are now being developed in other areas of the country. The meetings are run by the local deaf community, with support from BSMHD. The purpose of the meetings is to provide information and an opportunity to discuss topics that promote mental and physical wellbeing in the deaf community. Topics that have been covered at recent meetings include: Cancer Awareness, Counselling Services, How deaf people are affected by hate crime, HIV/AIDS in the deaf community, Art Therapy, Relationship between Nutrition and Mental Health.
Healthy Deaf Minds - London The next meeting of the Healthy Deaf Minds London Group will be on Wednesday 2 December 2009 at the Small Meeting Room, Friends Meeting House, Euston Road, London (opposite Euston Station). The topic is"Deaf Children and Stress and how to communicate with deaf children, youth and family". There will be three speakers from National Deaf Services: Val Leach - social worker, Clare Bartlett - Assistant Psychologist, Joanna Hoskins - speech and language therapist. Starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 9.00pm. Full communication support, tea & coffee are available. Entrance fee is £5. Healthy Deaf Minds meetings outside London Following the success of our initiative to encourage similar groups across the country, funded by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, there are now groups being developed in East Midlands, Bristol, Newcastle and Edinburgh.
